It was a busy weekend of Suzuki racing with round five of AMA Monster Energy Supercross rolling into Oakland, California and the first round of the Western Off Road Championship Series (WORCS) lighting up the sky in Las Vegas, Nevada. Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing
The Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing Team rolled into Oakland, Calif. with high expectations. In front of 48,146 fans at Oakland’s Alameda County Coliseum, defending 250 West Supercross Champion Justin Hill scored a hard fought third place finish in the main event on his RM-Z250. Weston Peick again showed great speed on his RM-Z450, placing third in his heat race. Justin Bogle looked increasingly comfortable on his RM-Z450 in only his second race back. Malcolm Stewart was on target for a breakout race in the 450 class, as was Phil Nicoletti in the 250 ranks. Click the link for the full team race report.
H.E.P. Motorsports
H.E.P. Motorsports continued their charge on the 2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series. Kyle Cunningham, Henry Miller and Tallon LaFountaine all made it through the qualifying heats and put their Suzuki RM-Z’s into the night show. Henry Miller had an unfortunate crash early in heat race 2 and injured his right shoulder ending the night early. Kyle Cunningham had an exciting LCQ race that saw him work through the pack on his Suzuki RM-Z450 from 20th to 4th, grabbing the last qualifying position into the main event. The team looks to regroup from Oakland and bounce back in San Diego.
Nut Up/LVN100/Suzuki
The Nut Up/LVN100 /Suzuki race team truck awning was quiet in Oakland with both riders unfortunately out due to injuries. Matt Bisceglia’s crash last weekend in Glendale left him with some broken ribs, while Josh Hansen is still recovering from an offseason foot injury. Both riders are working on healing up to return back and put their Suzuki RM-Z450’s into action.
Hatch Racing/Thor/Wayside Lumber/Yoshimura/Suzuki
Defending series champion and RM Army off-road racer Gary Sutherlin debuted his Hatch Racing/Thor/Wayside Lumber/Yoshimura/Suzuki to excited off-road racing fans at the season opener Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Western Off Road Championship Series. Under the shining lights of The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, pro off-road racers from around the world lined up for the dead engine start PRO MC race. When the green flagged waved, Sutherlin fired up his Suzuki and rocketed off the starting line. As lap one completed, Sutherlin came around in 12th as the 45-minute race counted down. Lap after grueling lap, Sutherlin rode smart and battled the challenging man-made course landing his Suzuki onto the podium in 3rd place. Sutherlin looks to build off this positive momentum this weekend at round two of the District 37 FMF Big6 Grand Prix series in Taft, California. The WORCS season will continue for round two at Canyon MX on February 23-25 in Peoria, Arizona.
